30% Savings Through Greywater Recovery
With the renovation of Akra Sorgun, numerous sustainability-focused innovations have been implemented to reduce the carbon footprint. Smart room systems that contribute significantly to energy savings, motion and occupancy sensors in the rooms, heating systems, booster pumps, and frequency inverters in the main air conditioning units are among the measures taken for energy efficiency.
Launched in 2024, the Greywater Recovery Project ensures that rainwater and graywater are treated and, after lab analysis, used for garden irrigation. Domestic wastewater originating from sinks, showers, and bathtubs—excluding sewage—is also included in this project. With this initiative, the hotel aims to save 100 tons of water per day, equivalent to approximately 30% in water savings.
The gardens feature Zoysia Japonica grass, which allows for significant water savings. Xeriscaping (drought-tolerant landscaping) practices have also reduced the need for garden fertilizers by 98.4%. In the kitchen, a zero-waste approach is adopted: vegetable scraps are turned into spices, and root vegetable remnants are repurposed to make sauces. Nearly 95% of kitchen ingredients are sourced from local markets.
Carettas and Sand Lilies Are Protected
As part of its sustainability vision and mission to protect nature and all living beings, Akra Hotels is committed to protecting the endangered Caretta Caretta sea turtles. Informative guidance is provided to guests staying at the Fethiye and Sorgun properties. During the breeding season from May 1st to October 1st, guests are kindly asked to refrain from moving sunbeds onto nesting areas, digging in the sand, or lighting fires or bright lights on the beach at night to avoid disturbing the turtles.
Akra Sorgun is also actively engaged in protecting sand lilies, another vulnerable native species.
